Horizons-on-the-Hudson School is located right on the river in the historic city of Newburgh, NY. Horizons is a Pre-K through 5th Grade school. We have recently been accredited as an International Baccalaureate World School. The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
Horizons on the Hudson is participating in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) designed for students aged 3 to 12. The philosophy of the PYP is to make the students into inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, knowledgeable, principled, caring, open-minded, well-balanced, and reflective citizens of the world. As part of the program students are required to learn a second language during the program. Beginning this year all students grades 1-6 will begin to learn Spanish.
