     Horizons-on-the-Hudson School is located right on the river in the historic city of Newburgh, NY. Horizons is a Pre-K through 5th Grade school. We have recently been accredited as an International Baccalaureate World School.

     The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

     To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

     These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

     Horizons on the Hudson is participating in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) designed for students aged 3 to 12. The philosophy of the PYP is to make the students into inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, knowledgeable, principled, caring, open-minded, well-balanced, and reflective citizens of the world. As part of the program students are required to learn a second language during the program. Beginning this year all students grades 1-6 will begin to learn Spanish.

Horizons On The Hudson Storytelling Troupe Visits Head Start

     The Horizons on the Hudson Storytelling Troupe received a warm reception at Head Start of Eastern Orange County recently when students visited the building to share their love of Kamishibai storytelling.

Horizons on the Hudson Honor Society Hosts First Community Blood Drive

     On Friday, March 2, 2012, National Elementary Honor Society students from Horizons on the Hudson Magnet School in Newburgh, along with teachers Concetta Cracolici, Kelly Garcia-Omana, Wanda Mejia-Jenkins and Maureen Spanakos, held the school’s first blood drive in partnership with the New York Blood Center. In total, 40 units of blood were donated.

Unlimited Horizons Application and Teacher Recommendation Form

     The updated Unlimited Horizons Application with Teacher Recommendation Form (PDF) is now available for download. You can also find the form under the 'Our Programs' page. Students who excel in all academic areas and who achieve above and beyond the levels of their peers are candidates for Unlimited Horizons.

Horizons on the Hudson Students Connect Classroom Lessons to Real World

     Recently, students in Jennifer Cline’s third grade class at Horizons on the Hudson Magnet School in Newburgh launched a new unit of study, entitled “How the World Works”.

Horizons-on-Hudson Elementary School Blood Drive

District Partners With No Name-Calling Week
The District recently partnered with No Name-Calling Week, a national movement designed to promote anti-bullying, diversity and tolerance for all. No Name-Calling Week was held in the Hudson Valley from Mon., January 30 until Fri., February 3, 2012.

Annual National Elementary Honor Society Induction Ceremony

      On a recent school morning, teachers, students, friends, and family members assembled at Horizons on the Hudson Magnet School in Newburgh to celebrate the induction of nineteen students into the National Elementary Honor Society.

Website Updated: Media Center, Newsletter, and Video Conferences

     Horizons on the Hudson Magnet School held a community book fair at Barnes and Nobles on Saturday, December 10 and which was a huge success! The Horizon on the Hudson (HOH) community really worked hard, and nearly the entire faculty and staff were involved.

Upcoming Horizons Bookfair at Barnes and Noble

     On December 10th, Barnes and Noble will be holding a book fair to benefit Horizons-on-the-Hudson School. The book fair will take place at the Barnes and Noble in Newburgh, NY and their are numerous activities planned. If you can't attend the Newburgh Book Fair you can also visit any Barnes and Noble and turn in our voucher for our school to get credit or use the voucher online for our school to receive credit.

Teacher Honored by Mid-Hudson School Study Council

     On September 19, 2011, Horizons on the Hudson Magnet School’s Judy Ambrosetti was honored with the 2011 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching by the Mid-Hudson School Study Council.

Horizons Features in Day of Peace Story on Main District Site

     On September 21, 2011, students from the Newburgh Enlarged City School District celebrated International Peace Day by uniting with others to spread the message of peace across the world.
